Pregame – MTL v ATL

Montreal takes on direct rivals with seven games to go

CF Montréal will play at home for a second time this week, when it hosts Atlanta United at Stade Saputo this Saturday at 7pm. Tickets for the game are still available here.

The standings in the Eastern Conference are tighter than ever. Only three points separate third from eighth place. Our opponent is currently in sixth, two points ahead of us, while Wilfried Nancy’s men sit right behind the playoff line in eighth. Montreal will be looking to bounce back and return into a playoff spot after suffering two consecutive losses, against the Columbus Crew on the road and against the league-leading New England Revolution at Stade Saputo last Wednesday.

“There are seven games left to play and they are all important,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “Tomorrow’s game, of course, we have to win it. We are in control of our situation right now.”

For Montreal, this matchup against Atlanta represents one of the most important games of the year. A win on Saturday would allow Montreal to not only jump ahead of Atlanta in the standings, but also possibly all the way into fourth.

It’s already the third game between these two sides this year. CF Montréal and Atlanta United played to a draw at Stade Saputo in the beginning of August, while Atlanta managed to edge out Montreal 1-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium back in May, thanks to a stoppage-time winner.

The Georgian side is currently on a good stretch with four wins in their last five games. Montreal will be looking to put a dent in that record in the last game before the international break.

After the international break, CF Montréal will be back in action on Saturday, October 16, to host the Philadelphia Union at 1pm at Stade Saputo. Tickets for that game are available here.
