Montreal looking to remain unbeaten against Florida side
Montreal is back in action to take on Inter Miami CF for the third time this season, this Saturday at 8pm at DRV PNK Stadium. Wilfried Nancy’s men were victorious in their last two meetings against Miami this season, shutting them out in both games.
The Miami side has struggled against Montreal, still winless after three games, with Montreal taking all nine points since Inter Miami CF joined the league last year.
Despite a solid performance last week against the league leaders, Montreal fell 2-1 to the New England Revolution and will look to get back to the winning column after suffering two consecutive losses.
“They’re probably sick of us winning against them,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “They will do everything they can to beat us. I’ve warned the players. It’ll be a difficult game. I saw their last game and they’re getting better. It’ll be a tricky game, but my players are fully aware.”
Inter Miami CF has had a difficult season, to say the least. David Beckham’s team currently sits at the very bottom of the league’s standings with just nine points and haven’t won in their last seven MLS games. They’ll be looking to build on a solid performance in their last game against the fourth placed Philadelphia Union which earned them a point in the standings.
With the exception of the unprecedented 9-goal showdown against FC Cincinnati that marked our return to Stade Saputo, Montreal’s defense has been exceptional this year. With just 18 goals against in just 15 games, this is the Club’s best defensive record thus far into an MLS season since it joined the league in 2012.
“By attacking well, we defend well,” added Nancy. “We manage to keep the ball and position ourselves well when we lose it. When we go through weaker moments, we manage them well. I expect the same against Miami, but I also expect them to be more aggressive and creative.”
Kamal Miller and Samuel Piette will still be unavailable for this game, although they will be back with the group shorty, as the Canadian national team suffered a heartbreaking elimination against Mexico in the Gold Cup semi-final, conceding a goal in the game’s last seconds to fall 2-1.
