Pregame – Cincinnati v Montreal

Montreal visits Cincinnati for third meeting between both sides

CF Montréal travels to Ohio on Wednesday to take on FC Cincinnati on the road, in a game that kicks off at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690). It’s already a third meeting between these two sides this year, both winning a game apiece ahead of this third showdown.

As the season moves on, things are getting a little more difficult for Wednesday’s hosts. Head coach Jaap Stam’s men are winless in their last eight games, including a 5-4 loss the last time these two met at Stade Saputo just a few weeks ago.

“They’re progressing well since the last time we faced them,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “They haven’t won in their last few games but they’re playing a lot better, and they connect better on the pitch. They can cause a lot of problems to their opponents. It’ll be a difficult away game against a direct opponent.”

Montreal is coming off a dramatic, come from behind win over the New York Red Bulls last Saturday, a win that allowed the squad to break out of its slump and put an end to a five-game streak without winning.

Wilfried Nancy’s men are in good shape as the second part of the season takes full swing, sitting above the playoff line and extremely close to those ranked just ahead of them.

“Our group is doing really well,” said midfielder Mathieu Choinière. “Our staff brings a really good energy with everyone, which I find makes it easier for the group to focus and work the right way every morning at training.”

Injury update

Not much to add on the injury front, as Lassi Lappalainen and Romell Quioto continue to inch their way towards a return. Forward Mason Toye suffered a shoulder injury in the Club’s last game and will require further testing before a timeline for his return is established.

“For Lassi and Romell, it’s going very well,” added Nancy. “They’re working individually with our staff. We’re happy, their progression is good. I’m waiting for news regarding Mason. We hope his absence will be shorter rather than longer.”
