Montreal looking to extend unbeaten streak to seven games
CF Montréal will be back home to take on the New England Revolution, this Saturday at 7:30pm at Stade Saputo. Tickets for the game are still available here.
Head coach Wilfried Nancy’s men will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games against the Massachusetts side. With a record and four wins and two draws during that streak, Montreal has been able to jump into second place in the Eastern Conference standings, just five points away from the Philadelphia Union in first and with a game in hand.
A big reason for their successes has been their dominance on the road this season. The Club easily broke its former record of four games won on the road in one season, now at seven wins already with four road games left.
“We need to remain confident, but also have the necessary humility, and that will be the same against New England,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We will do everything we can to perform well in front of our fans and win this game.”
The task won’t be easy, however, against a New England side that has had the better of Montreal as of late. Head coach Bruce Arena’s squad has won the last six contests between the two teams, a streak the Bleu-blanc-noir will be eager to break come Saturday.
Currently ranked sixth in the Eastern Conference, New England has only lost two games in their last 17, with a record of 6-2-9 in that period.
“There will definitely be fatigue on their end,” said midfielder Samuel Piette. “Every game is different, but we know that we can be aggressive, attack this game from the very beginning, and take advantage of that fatigue from their midweek game. It’s something we try to do for all of our games.”
The Club will also be honouring its former captain Patrice Bernier during the game. Inducted into Canada Soccer’s Hall of Fame, the Club will be recognizing this achievement at halftime with a special ceremony.
Many former players will be in attendance, including Club legend Nacho Piatti, who will be presented on the pitch before the start of the game.
CF Montréal will play its next game on Saturday, August 27, against the Chicago Fire, as the team looks for a fourth consecutive win on the road. The squad will then be back at Stade Saputo for a midweek game on Wednesday, August 31, against the New York Red Bulls. Tickets for that game are available here.
