Italian and Canadian dignitaries were present at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, the home of AS Roma, on Monday, for a very special friendly match played under the label of friendship and fraternity.
The Fiorentina Women’s team and Liberi Nantes, a team comprised of young migrants and refugees, played a soccer game to tackle racism and intolerance in sport and in society.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in Italy for a G7 meeting, and Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo were accompanied by Open Goal representatives and by AS Roma President James Pallotta, Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malagò, as well as by many Italian politicians and the Canadian and Italian diplomatic delegations.
Trudeau and Saputo took this opportunity to distribute Bleu-blanc-noir jerseys to the young players at the stadium. The IMFC President also offered a Bologna FC jersey to the Canadian government leader.
