CF Montréal's Host Families program
CF Montréal's Host Families program

The CF Montréal Academy Host Family Program offers elite youth players from across Canada the opportunity to become full-time student-athletes while residing with local Montreal families. This program is made possible by generous local families who want to support the aspirations of talented young players. By matching players with safe, caring, and healthy families in the Montreal area, we ensure meaningful development of each player, both on and off the field.

The purpose of the CF Montréal Academy is to develop student-athletes who embody excellent character and sportsmanship. Host families play a crucial role in this development by providing a supportive and nurturing environment, helping our academy players achieve their full potential.

FAQ

How can I become a host family for a CF Montréal Academy player?

Please take a moment to complete the interest form. The Coordinator of Player Care will then contact you for an initial phone interview and a member of the Academy will schedule an in-home visit. If satisfactory, a background check for all household members aged 18 and older will be conducted.

Could you provide more information about the background check process?

Ensuring a safe and supportive environment for our Academy players is our top priority. CF Montréal will cover the cost of the background check, conducted through our security partners, Groupe Track and/or SPVM. The verification process is done online and at the designated SPVM location.

What type of financial compensation is offered to host families for accommodating a player?

A financial compensation is determined through an agreement between the host family and the player’s family. Amounts depend on individual circumstances and cost of living.

What is the typical age range of players in the program?

Typical ages of players range from 14 to 18 years old. They are in high school or first year CEGEP students and continue their education while residing with their host families.

Is transportation to school, practices, and games the responsibility of the host family?

The club arranges transportation for players from school to training sessions. Transportation responsibilities may vary depending on the host family’s circumstances and arranged through mutual agreement with the player’s family.

When do players typically arrive, and do they return home during summer breaks?

For the girl’s side, the academic calendar begins at the end of August, with training starting mid September. Their season spans through the summer months, they require housing for most of the year.

On the boy’s side, their season aligns with the academic school year.

For both programs, there is a break during the second week of December, and activities resume in January when school starts back up.

Is it possible for a Host Family to take a vacation while hosting a player?

Our goal is to facilitate the host family’s usual family lifestyle while meeting the needs of the Academy player. The Academy will arrange short-term accommodations for the player as required.

Will host families receive updates about the team’s schedule and the player’s commitments throughout the season?

Yes, host families can opt to be included in all relevant communication platforms to stay informed about the team’s schedule and the player’s commitments throughout the season.

What are requirements for hosting an Academy player?

Host families are responsible to provide proper accommodation to ensure a comfortable and supportive environment to players and for ensuring the player has access to proper nutrition to sustain their development and performance.

What type of parental responsibilities should a host family assume?

Host families are expected to welcome the player as a member of their own family, treating them with the same care and respect they extend to their own children or family members. In return, players are required to fully adhere to all guidelines set forth in the CF Montréal Player’s Manual, as well as any household rules set by the host family.
