MONTREAL – Defender Róbert Thorkelsson has been called up to Iceland's U21 team ahead of two qualifying matches for the UEFA U21 Euro in 2023.
The 20-year-old center-back will join his national team to face the Czech Republic in a home and away two-legged series.
The Icelanders will first host the Czech Republic this Friday in Reykjavík, before visiting their opponents on September 27.
Thorkelsson has played 10 games in 2022, collecting 128 minutes in MLS in addition to two starts in the Canadian Championship. He made his debut for CF Montréal at the Estadio Azteca in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals against Cruz Azul on March 9.
