Montreal to play last home game of the MLS regular season
CF Montréal takes on D.C. United in front of a sold-out crowd, this Saturday at 7:30pm, in its last home game of the MLS regular season at Stade Saputo. You can follow live on TVA Sports, BPM Sports and on tsn690.ca.
Presented by BMO, the match will be accompanied by a multitude of on-site festivities to highlight the continued support of the Club’s 12th player throughout this season, which contributed to the team's playoff qualification and a guaranteed second-place finish in the Eastern Conference – a first in the Club's history.
To mark the occasion, official 2022 team posters will be handed out to the first 5,000 people who enter Stade Saputo as of 6pm.
With two games left in the MLS regular season, the Bleu-blanc-noir remains in the race for the Supporters’ Shield. They’ll need to win their last two games, however, and hope that LAFC and Philadelphia drop points along the way. They have already confirmed second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
“We still have two games left to play, two games that are very important to us if we want to keep climbing in the standings,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “For now, we’re focused on two games, and then our focus will shift to the playoffs.”
Canadian internationals Kamal Miller, Alistair Johnston, Joel Waterman, Samuel Piette and Ismaël Koné, as well as Honduran international Romell Quioto and Icelandic international Robert Thorklesson are all back from their respective national teams and will be available to the coaching staff for Saturday’s game.
D.C. United, on their end, has been eliminated from the playoff race, and currently sit at the bottom of the league’s standings, with 27 points.
“We have a game against D.C. United that won’t be easy,” said Nancy. “They know they have nothing left to play for, so they’re going to try different things. It won’t be the same team we faced earlier this year.”
CF Montréal will play its final game of the MLS regular-season next Sunday, October 9, at 2:30pm, against Inter Miami CF, on Decision Day in MLS. Stay tuned for more information regarding our first game of the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs, which will be played at Stade Saputo.
