Honours, appreciation and testimonies continue to flow towards Patrice Bernier. The Montreal midfielder continues his lap of honour in the province, more than a month after his last career game which provided emotional moments at Stade Saputo.
Soccer Quebec, during its Half-time gala, this past Saturday, named Bernier as the Pro Player of the Year, as well as inducting him to its Hall of Fame. Patrice, though, is not the first Bernier to feature amongst these great builders and players; his father Jean is already an immortal of the province’s federation, having been hailed in 2005 as a builder.
Then, on Tuesday afternoon in Quebec City, members of parliament showed their appreciation for the Bleu-blanc-noir’s ex-captain. One after the other, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, the leader of the official opposition, Jean-François Lisée, and Gouin MP and renowned soccer enthusiast Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois celebrated the 38-year-old’s illustrious career.
“As we just heard, I will propose to members of the assembly to join us, all together, to salute the exceptional career of professional soccer player Patrice Bernier, who retired while wearing the Montreal Impact colours,” underlined Mr. Couillard, as told by the Journal de Québec. “I had the pleasure to meet him this morning, with his parents who are with him, and I also want to greet them. They must be very proud, once again, of their son, today, as they have been so many times.”
