The Montreal Impact Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Montreal and the Sud-Ouest borough, inaugurated on Thursday the new multisport mini-field at parc Joe-Beef, in the Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood, in Montreal.
"We are very happy and honoured to inaugurate our second multisport mini-field in a park so rich with symbolism," said the president of the Montreal Impact Foundation, Carmie Saputo. "Because Joe Beef is more than a park's name. It represents all the hard work this man put in for his community, and his commitment to make a difference, values the Foundation holds dear. This location will allow our youth to do physical activity in a healthy and structured environment. Thank you to everyone that contributed to this project with us."
"I want to sincerely thank the Montreal Impact Foundation for its generosity," said Benoit Dorais, mayor of the Sud-Ouest borough and president of the City of Montreal's executive committee. "This new mini-field improves our services offered and answers the growing interest in soccer in our borough. I invite the entire community to make it their own and take advantage of it."
For the occasion, members of the Montreal Impact first team were present, goalkeeper James Pantemis, defenders Bacary Sagna and Zachary Brault-Guillard, as well as midfielder Mathieu Choinière, to take part in a few mini-matches with neighbourhood children from Charles-Lemoyne elementary school.
The Foundation assumed all costs of the construction of the field, which was more than $225,000, including the installation of the surface, goals, and a fence delimiting the playing area.
The first mini-field was erected last summer at parc Champdoré, in the Saint-Michel neighbourhood, in Montreal.
