VANCOUVER, B.C. – CF Montréal heads to Vancouver and meets the Whitecaps this Wednesday at BC Place at 10 p.m. EDT, in the first leg semifinal of the TELUS Canadian Championship (OneSoccer, RDS, TSN, TSN 690). Philippe Eullaffroy’s squad will be looking to bounce back after Saturday’s loss in Miami.
The last time the two teams met outside of MLS competition was in the 2023 Canadian Championship final, when the Bleu-blanc-noir fell 2-1 to the Whitecaps at BC Place. Since the creation of the Canadian Championship in 2008, Montréal holds an overall record of 4-7-6 (18 goals scored, 21 goals conceded) against the Whitecaps, including a 1-5-3 record (8 goals scored, 13 goals conceded) on the road.
CF Montréal advanced to the tournament semifinals after eliminating Vancouver FC in the quarterfinals. Montréal won the first leg 2-1 on July 8 in Langley before earning another 2-1 victory in the return leg on July 12 at Stade Saputo, advancing 4-2 on aggregate.
Should he start Wednesday, goalkeeper Sébastian Breza would set a new Club record for Canadian Championship starts with his ninth appearance in the starting lineup. He would move ahead of Evan Bush, with whom he is currently tied for first place with eight starts and 720 minutes played. With three clean sheets, he is also tied with Bush and Clément Diop for the Club record in that category. His six wins already stand as a Club record in the Canadian Championship.
