MONTREAL – CF Montréal midfielder Mathieu Choinière has been invited to the 2023 MLS All-Star Game, which will be played against English club Arsenal FC on Wednesday, July 19, at Audi Field, in Washington, D.C.
Choinière was one of two selections made by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
“It is a well-deserved recognition for Mathieu, a player who always puts the team above his individual performances,” said CF Montréal head coach Hernán Losada. “He has been an inspiration for all the young players in our group and the Club. He exemplifies hard work and dedication. He will represent us with pride and honour.”
This will be the 24-year-old midfielder’s first MLS All-Star Game invitation. Choinière has featured in 17 games this season for Montreal, including 16 as a starter, in 1,446 minutes of play. He has tallied two goals and three assists so far in 2023. He also featured in all four matches of Montreal’s 2023 Canadian Championship campaign in the preliminary round (v. Vaughan SC), the quarterfinal (v. Toronto FC), the semifinal (v. Forge FC) and the tournament final (v. Vancouver Whitecaps FC).
Choinière has been with the Club for over a decade, having joined the Academy in 2011. He was the first player to feature for the U13, U14, U16, U18 and U19 squads prior to joining the first team in MLS on July 17, 2018.
The roster was selected through a combination of fan, player, and media voting (12 players), designations by All-Star head coach Wayne Rooney of host club D.C. United (12 players), and a pair of selections by MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
