MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced on Sunday that Quebec goalkeeper Sebastian Breza will return on loan for the 2022 season, with an option to purchase from Italian club Bologna FC 1909.
“We are happy to have Sebastian back with the team for the upcoming season,” said CF Montréal Sporting Director Olivier Renard. “We were pleased with his progress last season, so we wanted him to continue on with us. We opted not to exercise his option but we remained in close contact with Bologna and his return is confirmed today.”
Loaned to CF Montréal on April 6, 2021, Breza started eight matches in his first MLS season, collecting two clean sheets, 720 minutes of play and a 3-3-2 record. He also featured as Montreal’s starting goalkeeper in the Club’s trophy-winning Canadian Championship run where he concluded the tournament with a 3-0-0 record, two clean sheets and a 0.33 goals against average. Breza was subsequently named the tournament MVP.
Breza, 23, left the Ste-Julie Soccer Club when he was 16 years old to join S.S. Monopoli 1966, in Italy. Loaned to Palermo FC in 2016, he then played 54 games with Potenza SC in the Italian third division before joining Bologna FC 1909, on August 29, 2020. At the international level, he has also previously been selected by the U20, U21 and U23 Canadian national teams.
