MONTREAL – Thursday, CF Montréal selected Giuseppe Barone, a 22-year-old Michigan State University midfielder, 63rd overall, in the MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas. The Club then passed on its other pick, at 65th overall.
“Giuseppe is one of the players who caught our attention and was still available at the time of our selection”, said sporting director Olivier Renard. "We have seen and heard good things about him. He is a midfielder with good technique and a good vision of the game. He will be invited to our next camp to try and win a spot."
The Michigan-born midfielder started 23 games in 2019, collecting three goals and 10 assists. In 2018, he played 15 games, starting 14 of them, tallying a goal and an assist. In his first year with the Spartans, he started 17 games, scoring three goals and adding four assists.
