CF Montréal protects 12 players ahead of expansion draft

MONTREAL – CF Montréal unveiled on Monday its list of 12 protected players in preparation for the expansion draft taking place on Tuesday, December 14, at 7pm.

CF Montréal protected defenders Zorhan Bassong, Zachary Brault-Guillard, Kamal Miller and Joel Waterman, midfielders Ahmed Hamdi, Lassi Lappalainen, Matko Miljevic, Samuel Piette and Joaquín Torres, as well as forwards Sunusi Ibrahim, Romell Quioto and Mason Toye.

Homegrown players part of the roster and aged 25 years and younger in 2021 are automatically excluded from the process. Those players are goalkeepers James Pantemis and Jonathan Sirois, defenders Keesean Ferdinand and Karifa Yao, as well as midfielders Jean-Aniel Assi, Clément Bayiha, Mathieu Choinière, Tomas Giraldo, Djordje Mihailovic (homegrown in Chicago), Sean Rea, Nathan Saliba and Rida Zouhir.

The following players will therefore be eligible for selection during the expansion draft by Charlotte FC : Jean-Yves Ballou Tabla, Sebastian Breza, Rudy Camacho, Bjorn Johnsen, Mustafa Kizza, Ismael Koné, Emanuel Maciel, Aljaz “Kiki” Struna, Robert Thorkelsson and Victor Wanyama.

Defender Gabriele Corbo does not need to be protected ahead of the expansion draft because his contract begins in 2022.
