MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced on Wednesday the acquisition of up to $800,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from the Philadelphia Union, in return for midfielder Joaquín Torres.

CF Montréal will receive $250,000 in 2023 GAM, $250,000 in 2024 GAM, as well as up to $300,000 in conditional GAM based on Torres’ performance.

“I would like to thank Joaquín for his contribution during the last two seasons with us in Montreal,” said Vice-President and Chief Sporting Officer Olivier Renard. “We wish him the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”

Torres joined CF Montréal on loan from Argentinian club Newell’s Old Boys in February 2021 and signed a contract with the Montreal side in October of that same year. In two seasons with CF Montréal (2021 and 2022), he tallied seven goals and 12 assists in 55 games, including 37 as starter, for a total of 3,201 minutes of play.

Transaction: CF Montréal acquires $250,000 in 2023 GAM, $250,000 in 2024 GAM, as well as up to $300,000 in conditional GAM should certain performance-based incentives be met from the Philadelphia Union, in return for midfielder Joaquín Torres.
