MONTREAL - CF Montréal announced on Monday the acquisition of Quebec-born goalkeeper Sebastian Breza via permanent transfer from Bologna FC. Breza has signed a two-season deal for 2024 and 2025, with two option years. The Club also acquired central defender Joaquín Sosa on loan for the 2024 season from Bologna FC.
Breza returns to the Club after playing with Montreal in 2021 and 2022. In two MLS seasons, he played 31 regular-season games, recording five shutouts. He helped the team lift the 2021 Canadian Championship and went on to play four games in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. Following his stint with the Bleu-blanc-noir, he played 14 games during the 2022-2023 season with Carrarese Calcio 1908 in Italy's third division, on loan from Bologna FC. On July 12, he was loaned to Yverdon Sport FC in the Swiss first division where he earned four appearances, including a cup match.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper left CS Sainte-Julie at the age of 16 to join S.S. Monopoli 1966 in Italy. On loan to Palermo FC in 2016, he played 54 games in Italy's third division with Potenza Calcio before joining Bologna FC on August 29, 2020. Internationally, he has caps with Canada's U20 and U23 teams.
Sosa, who turned 22 on January 10, is a native of Uruguay. Developed with Uruguayan club Nacional, he played over 50 games on loan with Uruguayan first division clubs C.A. Rentistas in 2021 and Liverpool FC in 2022. He was acquired by Bologna FC on August 17, 2022, playing 11 games and 687 minutes in the Italian first division, before being loaned to Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian top flight. With the national team, he played 24 games with Uruguay's U17 squad.
