MONTREAL – CF Montréal announced on Tuesday the acquisition of American forward Erik Hurtado. As a free agent since the end of last year, he agreed to a deal for the 2021 season and an option year in 2022.
“We are happy with the acquisition of Erik,” said CF Montréal sporting director Olivier Renard. “He’s a versatile player with many seasons of experience in MLS. As he was available, we took this opportunity to add him to our squad.”
Hurtado, selected fifth in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, has played over 130 games in an MLS career spanning through eight seasons.
The 30-year-old forward played 105 MLS games with the Canadian club, including 47 starts, where he scored 12 goals and added 10 assists. He also scored two goals and recorded two assists in five Concacaf Champions League starts with the Whitecaps in 2015 and 2016. Between 2013 and 2018, he featured in 12 Canadian Championship games, scoring twice and adding two assists.
In 2015, Vancouver loaned him to Norwegian first division club Mjøndalen IF, where he played 11 league games and one cup game.
On December 14, 2018, Hurtado was traded to Sporting Kansas City, where he played 28 games, including 11 starts, scoring seven goals in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. With SKC, he played three Concacaf Champions League games in 2019 and two MLS Cup playoff games in 2020.
