Aaron Herrera called up by Guatemala

MONTREAL – Defender Aaron Herrera has been called up by the Guatemalan national team for two friendly matches as part of the nation’s 2023 Gold Cup preparations.

The Guatemalan national team will play two matches in the United States this week against Costa Rica on Thursday, June 15, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, followed by a fixture against Venezuela at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in Connecticut on Sunday, June 18.

The 26-year-old Herrera is making his national team debut for Guatemala, having previously played for the U.S. senior and under-23 national teams. On January 31, 2021, he started a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in a 7-0 victory in Orlando.

Herrera has played 15 games with CF Montréal this season, including 14 starts, for a total of 1,174 minutes, as well as two matches in the 2023 Canadian Championship.
