Argentine forward Maxi Urruti is now in Montreal
Exciting news out of Centre Nutrilait Thursday morning. The Impact’s newest forward, acquired from FC Dallas just over a month ago, put pen to paper and signed a three-year contract with the club, keeping him in Montreal until at least 2021.
“I’m very happy to have signed in Montreal,” said Urruti, meeting the media for the first time at Centre Nutrilait. “I received an extremely warm welcome. Now, I want to get to work with my team to try and offer our fans great wins.”
There’s no questioning why Urruti is here. As someone part of the league’s top 15 in scoring over the past three seasons, the Argentine is here to put the ball in the back of the net for the Bleu-blanc-noir. On his end, it isn’t something he has a problem with.
“What I expect from myself is to score goals,” explained Urruti. “I have qualities that can be adapted depending on what the coach expects of me, but I love being in the box. Like any forward, I’m only content when I find the back of the net, and that’s what I’ll try to do here.”
Nacho approved
Of course, when Urruti first found out he was being traded to the Quebec club, he immediately thought of Nacho Piatti. His Argentine compatriot has made a name for himself north of the border, cementing himself as one of the best players in the league through his time with the Bleu-blanc-noir.
“I contacted Nacho right away,” said Urruti. “We went to eat, and Nacho had a lot of good to say regarding Montreal. Everyone knows Nacho is a good player. He’s easy to play with. I don’t think we’ll have any issues being on the same page.”
The former FC Dallas man was an integral part of the Toros’ lineup for three years, featuring in almost every game since his arrival, scoring 29 goals and adding 20 assists, often from a more midfield role. Now, he’s ready to do the same under head coach Rémi Garde.
“The most important aspect for me was knowing that the coach wanted me here. Other than that, I know life is great in Montreal. I’ll be here for three years, and my family and I couldn’t be happier.”
