Videotron Man of the match: Saphir Taïder enters the mix

Every game, the Montreal Impact asks you, the supporters, to pick your Videotron Man of the Match through our mobile app. It’s always a choice between three Impact players who are having a good game, and the winner is announced once the game is over.

Through five MLS games in July, the Bleu-blanc-noir managed a record of 2-2-1, including an important road point at Providence Park against the Portland Timbers. And if some of the usual faces are still occupying the top of the Videotron Man of the match standings, it’s Designated Player Saphir Taïder who stole the show in July.

The Algerian international was named Man of the match three times and scored four goals, including both in a 2-1 win against the Colorado Rapids to kick off the month. With 15 points in July, he climbs to sixth in the table, just a point behind defender Rod Fanni.

When it comes to consistency, there may be no one better than Samuel Piette. The young Canadian now leads the way in the standings for the first time this year, becoming the first to crack the 30-point mark, having earned nine points this month. In central defense, Rod Fanni continues to show that age is just a number, starting four of five MLS games in July and adding another five points to the bank.

For our standings, the winner of the Videotron Man of the Match earns five points, whoever finishes second gets two points, and the player who finishes third gets one point.
