Videotron Man of the match: Samuel Piette leads in June

Every game, the Montreal Impact asks you, the supporters, to pick your Videotron Man of the Match through our mobile app. It’s always a choice between three Impact players who are having a good game, and the winner is announced once the game is over.

The Impact won four of its five games in June, all by clean sheet. When the team is performing on all cylinders like the Bleu-blanc-noir is right now, it’s usually the entire team putting in the effort.

Evan Bush, with four clean sheets, added himself five points in the standings. Nacho Piatti, on his end, scored four goals in five games, and adds another seven points to his name. Same goes for Rod Fanni, the cornerstone of Montreal’s defense. The French veteran has played every minute in June, and represents a defensive force alongside Rudy Camacho, who on his end, earns his first points in the standings. Alejandro Silva breaks into the standings for the first time as well, he who scored his first goal with the Bleu-blanc-noir in the game against Sporting Kansas City.

But the one and only leader in June is Samuel Piette. The young Quebecer continues to impress, having been named Videotron Man of the match once in June, and finishing second and third once as well. With 8 points, Sam climbs to second in the standings, behind only maestro Nacho Piatti. The Canadian international had played every single minute in 2018 until the game against SKC, when a hard knock forced him to leave the game early.

But careful, young Chilean Jeisson Vargas is the only player (other than Nacho) to have been named Videotron Man of the match four times, earning the honour once again this month in the game against the Houston Dynamo, with his beautiful strike making the difference in the end. He remains close with 20 points.

For our standings, the winner of the Videotron Man of the Match earns five points, whoever finishes second gets two points, and the player who finishes third gets one point.
