Impact head coach Mauro Biello confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the Montreal club would appeal a decision made by referee Armando Villarreal, last Friday.
Mr. Villarreal sent Marco Donadel off in the 44th minute of the Impact’s game at the LA Galaxy, after a contact between Donadel and Galaxy midfielder Jermaine Jones. Following this duel, Jones fell down, his hands clutching his face. However, replays showed that Jones’ head was not the point of contact.
“I don’t think that this was a red card,” Biello said after his team’s training session. “I saw it again from all angles. There was a bit of contact, but Donadel simply wanted to improve his position on the ball.”
Biello also provided a health update on defender Hassoun Camara, who left Friday’s game midway through the first half after he sustained a head injury. Camara did not train on Tuesday, as he is currently following the MLS concussion protocol. But Biello hopes that Camara could be available for this Saturday’s game against Atlanta United FC (TICKETS – TVA Sports, CTV, 98,5FM & TSN Radio 690), should his concussion symptoms disappear entirely.
The Montreal head coach is also optimistic that Nacho Piatti could return after missing the last two games due to lower-body injury.
“It’s been going well so far for Nacho,” Biello said. “We’ll see. Four days remain before the game. But he’s undergone all required testing, and he worked hard while we were in Los Angeles. He wanted to be ready for training today. He worked well and felt no pain, which is a great sign.”
