Sagna and Browne connect against Real Salt Lake
Midfielder Omar Browne has certainly made an impression since his arrival in Montreal. The technically gifted midfielder scored in his first appearance after being subbed on in the second half against Chicago, adding his second goal with his new team last Wednesday against Real Salt Lake.
Slowly but surely, the Panamanian has gotten to know his teammates on and off the pitch, despite the language barrier in place. In particular on the right side, the midfielder seems to be getting along nicely with Bacary Sagna. The fact that Sagna speaks Spanish fluently has surely been very helpful.
“It took me some time to find a partner on the right side, but I get along very well with Omar,” said full-back Bacary Sagna. “We know the quality Omar has. He understands football and respects the game. In front of goal, he’s clinical. Whenever he has a chance, it ends up in the back of the net.”
The two connected well on numerous occasions in the team’s midweek victory against Real Salt Lake. Sagna had found Shamit Shome, who passed immediately to Browne for the game’s first goal. On the home team’s second goal, Browne passed for Sagna in behind the defense, leading to a penalty being called in favour of Montreal.
“I want to bring more offensively and be more decisive,” added Sagna. “Of course, my role is defensive. When my defensive work is carried out, I could play more forward. Against Real Salt Lake, we were doing well and we were holding on to the ball, so it allowed me to move up a little more. Omar, on his end, he doesn’t think too much. He just plays his football and enjoys it. You can tell he enjoys being on the pitch, and he’s bringing a lot to the team right now.”
With the club announcing that Designated Player Nacho Piatti will miss the next two to three months with a knee injury, Browne is just one of the players whose contributions will be vital during this stretch.
“What Omar has done so far is very good,” said head coach Rémi Garde. “We don’t speak the same language, which makes it a little difficult. I know he can do better, because he’s very gifted. He hasn’t been here for very long, but he has room for improvement in his game.”
