The Impact’s new primary kit was unveiled Friday night during the season kickoff
The Montreal Impact hosted its annual season kickoff event last Friday in front of over 1,000 Members and supporters. While those who attended had the opportunity to listen to a question and answer session with president Kevin Gilmore, head coach Rémi Garde, and administrative director of soccer operations, Patrick Leduc, they also had the opportunity to see the Bleu-blanc-noir’s brand-new primary kit for the first time as well.
The jersey, unveiled along with the rest of the team during the kickoff event, is different from what we’ve seen in years past; gradient lines, more specific designs, a button around the collar and a lot more of the colour black are some of the main differences. Its modern look, which still takes into account the club’s history, was definitely a fan favourite after its unveiling.
Matthieu Tanguay and Vanessa Castro, members from section 103 and present at the event on Friday, were happy with the changes.
“There were quite a few differences honestly; the colours, and the fact that it’s blacker as well,” said Tanguay. “It gives the team a look of toughness. It’s a new design with the gradient lines as well. I think it’s audacious, and it’ll represent the team for years to come.”
“I personally love the bell,” added Castro. “It gives extra meaning to what home games represent because we love hearing this famous bell ring. It’ll help the players remember what it’s like playing at home when they have away games. It’s really cool.”
Although the unveiling of the jersey may have been the night’s focal point, the evening also set the scene for what’s to come in 2019, both on and off the field.
“I actually love the jersey, but I’m here for the team, no matter the look,” said Stéphane Gillian, season ticket holder in section 108 since the club joined MLS in 2012. “I’m very confident for this season. Our attack looks promising and I think the entire team is pretty solid. I think there’s a lot of room to do something interesting in the Eastern Conference.”
“I really enjoyed hearing Kevin’s and Rémi’s plans,” added Matthieu Tanguay. “I feel like the team is ready to continue its positive play from the second half of last season. If we do that, I think we can easily make the playoffs.”
