Félix Berthiaume and Mathieu Hevey to represent Montreal in Chicago on August 1
The Montreal Impact renews its commitment towards the Special Olympics, after having hosted two teams at Centre Nutrilait for a training session and at Stade Saputo for a friendly game this past fall. Now, for the week of activities surrounding the MLS All-Star Game in Chicago, from July 30 to August 3, two soccer players from Montreal will travel to the Windy City to take part in the Unified All-Star Game, on August 1, between the East and the West: they are Mathieu Hevey and Félix Berthiaume!
Félix Berthiaume, a Special Olympics athlete, always shows a lot of team spirit during games. He likes soccer and looks to play the sport as a team, as his distribution and passing skills can testify. His desire to play and win is obvious.
Mathieu Hevey, an 18-year-old unified partner, has played soccer since he was 8. He is currently in an U18 AA team and has developed a passion for the sport since he was a kid. A competitive referee, a youth team coach and a futsal coach in the winter, Mathieu is also involved in his brother’s Special Olympics team since 2015 as an assistant coach. He likes to bring his positivity to the team and to make the athletes laugh; since he joined the technical team, he has noticed the players’ evolution in their maturity, their confidence and their good spirit.
The MLS and the Impact are dedicated to put to the forefront diversity, equality and inclusion at all levels of the sport and continue to support programs that increase access to soccer to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle.
