Six Canadians start in D.C.

Second scoreless draw against Eastern rival

Rémi Garde took a calculated risk, Tuesday night in the American capital. With a busy week consisting of three games in eight days, including the home opener at Stade Saputo, this Saturday at 1pm (TICKETS – TVA Sports, 98.5, TSN 690), he put his trust in his young players, a roll of the dice that ended up paying dividends: the Impact returns to Montreal with one more point and another clean sheet. Our trip to Washington also allowed the team to establish a new record in its MLS history for the most Canadians in a starting line-up, with six, five among those Quebecers and three from our Academy.

We can even say that the Impact was the more threatening team against D.C. United, who was eager to put a heavy 4-0 loss at home behind them, albeit without Wayne Rooney. Our young players were eager, confident, and tactically sound, surrounded by veterans who paved the road for them by leading the charge. Even though it’s just a draw, it remains a small victory for the Montreal Impact. Here are your advanced stats.
