Montreal goalkeeper is always excited when he goes back to home state
This won’t be the Impact’s first visit to Evan Bush country this year. Yes, the Impact will be in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday night, to take on the Columbus Crew SC at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, 98.5, TSN 690), but they were also in Ohio just a few weeks ago as well, taking on expansion side FC Cincinnati for the first time in MLS. That game that ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts, in which the Impact was refused a goal due to an offside that wasn’t actually an offside – but let’s move on.
Over the years, Montreal has gotten used to some odd games in the Buckeye State.
“It’s Ohio. It’s a weird place,” said goalkeeper Evan Bush. “It looks like it’s going to be super-hot there this weekend, so it could be another interesting one. But it’s a game we’re excited for. The mentality is fresh coming off a couple of tough weeks, but I think we’re still in a position to take points this weekend and get ourselves back into a very good position in the table.”
A return to Ohio is always great for Bush, but this match against the Crew marks a special occasion for the American ‘keeper, who will get to face his former head coach from his days playing for the University of Akron, Caleb Porter, now head coach of Columbus Crew SC, as well as other friends on the staff and in the team.
He’ll also have the usual family and friends cheering him on from the stands at MAPFRE Stadium.
“It’s nice to have family and friends in the stands,” added Bush. “It used to be more of a distraction because you have to see everybody the night before and sometimes the morning of the game, because people want to come and see you at the hotel. I used to have a hard time handling it because you want to see family and friends, but now people know my routine and when I’m available.”
And you really don’t want to mess with Bush’s routine, family or not. The teams have faced off already once this year, in the Impact’s home opener, which ended 1-0 in favour of Montreal. Montreal will then host York9 FC at Stade Saputo for the second leg of the Canadian Championship quarterfinal on Wednesday, July 24, at 7:30pm (TICKETS - 98.5, TSN 690).
