Montreal head coach meets the press again following Tuesday’s presser

The Montreal Impact head coach Rémi Garde spoke to the media on Thursday before the Bleu-blanc-noir’s game against the New England Revolution at Stade Saputo, on Saturday at 1pm (TICKETS – TVA Sports, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690). While he discussed his team’s matchup going into the weekend, he also answered questions regarding the last time he spoke to the media, on Tuesday.

“You put a lot on emphasis on what I said, but I was only answering a question,” explained Garde. “I wasn’t coming in front of all of you to say something specific. It could’ve been the same scenario just a few weeks ago.”

Garde originally spoke about wanting to see more effort in training from certain players during Tuesday’s media availability.

“I never said that players weren’t good enough,” added Garde, referencing a media outlet that had poorly translated his comments. “I only said that what I saw on the training ground was not enough. It’s like when you have a kid and he makes a mistake. You wouldn’t tell him ‘I don’t like you’ because that would cause a lot of damage. You say ‘I don’t like what you have done’, which is very different.”

Garde explained the importance of practice, and how important it is to stand out individually in these sessions during the week, but explained that getting a reaction out of his players was never on his agenda.

“I don’t expect my players to answer only when I speak to the press,” said Garde. “I just want to see my players training like they should be training. They know that our level of play on the weekend depends on how well we practiced during the week.”

And it’ll be a busy week for the team. As well as the Revs’ visit in Montreal on Saturday, the team will travel to the Windy City for a game against the Chicago Fire on Wednesday at 8:30 pm (TVA Sports, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690). The Bleu-blanc-noir will then come back to Stade Saputo to face the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, May 12 at 3pm (TICKETS – TVA Sports, CTV, 98,5fm, TSN Radio 690).
