Pregame – LA Galaxy v CF Montréal

Road trip continues with match in Los Angeles

CF Montréal will travel down the West Coast to Los Angeles to take on the LA Galaxy on Monday, July 4, at 10:30pm EST, at Dignity Health Sports Complex. It’s Montreal’s last game on the West Coast before returning home.

Montreal kicked off its road trip successfully last Wednesday with a huge 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. Mason Toye, making his first start since August 2021, notched a brace in his return after Montreal conceded in the first few minutes of play to secure all three points for the visiting side. 37-year-old Kei Kamara continues to shine with Montreal, notching both assists on Toye’s goals.

The win allowed Montreal to jump into first in the Eastern Conference standings, and second in the Supporters’ Shield race. It also marked a fourth win on the road this year, tying a Club record in MLS.

“The guys are feeling good and we’re coming off two wins. Everybody is confident,” said midfielder Victor Wanyama. “We know we need to stick together. We’re going to face a tough opponent again, but it would be good to get a positive result from this game.”

Our hosts currently sit in sixth in the Western Conference but have somewhat struggled since the return from the international break. The LA representatives are winless in their three matches played in June, including most recently a 3-2 loss to Minnesota United at home last Wednesday.

“There’s going to be an opposition in front of us that will try to dictate play, but our mindset remains the same,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We know it isn’t an easy environment, but we enjoy that and we’ll do everything we can to come away with points.”

Chicharito leads the team in scoring on their end, although his recent form has mimicked the team’s recent performances, the Mexican Desginated Player managing no goals or assists in LA’s last three games.

Montreal will be back home following this match to kick off a busy month of July, which includes three home games at Stade Saputo, starting with a tilt against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, July 9, at 7:30pm. Tickets for that game are available here.
