Montreal aiming for first in the conference on MLS Decision Day
CF Montréal heads to Fort Lauderdale to play its last game of the regular season, during which it will take on Inter Miami, Sunday at 2:30pm at DRV PNK Stadium on MLS Decision Day.
With a win, Wilfried Nancy’s men would establish two league records. It would bring their number of wins on the road to 11, and it would also be their seventh consecutive win on the road.
“It’s very nice to be in this position,” said centre-back Kamal Miller. “It says a lot about the work we did throughout the whole season. Decision Day was a very stressful day for us last year, and it’s nice to be in this position this time around.”
Montreal has just one loss in its last 14 games, including 10 wins, and has a chance of finishing first in their conference, but only if they win and Philadelphia either ties or loses against Toronto. Finishing first in the East would allow the Bleu-blanc-noir to receive a bye in the first round and qualify directly to the conference semi-finals.
“We will do everything we can to finish first,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We know we have to win our game against Miami and that Philadelphia needs to lose or draw against Toronto. We will try to play a good game in Miami for starters and then we’ll see for the rest. But if we can finish first, then we’ll finish first.”
Miami is on a hot streak to end the season, with four wins in their last four games. Head coach Phil Neville’s men just secured their spot in the playoffs with a 4-0-win last Wednesday against Orlando City SC, thanks to a brace from Gonzalo Higuain.
Tickets for the playoffs will go on sale Monday, October 10, at noon. You can purchase your tickets here.
