Montreal returns to MLS play after international break
CF Montréal will be in Ohio to take on FC Cincinnati, this Saturday afternoon at 4pm at TQL Stadium (TVA Sports, 91,9 Sports, TSN 690). Wilfried Nancy’s men will be looking for their first win of the season Saturday, following a record of three losses and one draw and their four opening games.
It marks a return to MLS action after the two-week international break. CF Montréal played to a 3-3 draw in its last MLS outing at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta United, adding their first point of the season. They’ll be on the road again next week before finally returning home for their first game of the year at Stade Saputo on Saturday, April 16, against Vancouver. Tickets are available here.
“I want to move forward. My job is to find solutions,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “There are things that are against us, but we need to move on and figure out what we could do better. We performed well in Atlanta, but it wasn’t the outcome we wanted. My message to the players is to keep going and believing, and good things will come.”
Canadian internationals Kamal Miller, Alistair Johnston and Ismaël Koné are back with the Club after their World Cup qualifiers with Canada, which saw the national side secure their berth in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, their first trip to the World Cup in 36 years.
Koné made his debut in the squad’s final game against Panama, which they lost 1-0.
FC Cincinnati has bounced back after a difficult start to the season that saw them lose their first two games without scoring a goal. But new head coach and former player Chris Albright and his men were able to bounce back with two consecutive wins, although they are coming off a loss to expansion side Charlotte FC last weekend.
“We need to focus on winning games,” said defender Zorhan Bassong. “That’s all we want right now. We feel like we deserved better in our last game, but that’s not where our focus is. I think there are positive things coming and we need to continue pushing in this direction.”
CF Montréal will be back in action to take on the New York Red Bulls next Saturday, April 9, at 4pm. Follow the action live on TVA Sports, 91,9 Sports and TSN 690.
