Pregame – CF Montréal v Atlanta United

CF Montréal looking to go seven games unbeaten

CF Montréal is back at Stade Saputo for just the second time this season, this Saturday at 4pm, to take on Atlanta United (TVA Sports, 91,9 Sports, TSN 690). Tickets are still available here.

Wilfried Nancy’s men will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak to seven games across all competitions, their last loss coming over a month and a half ago against New York City FC. CF Montréal is also on the verge of equalling the Club record of six consecutive games unbeaten in MLS.

“They’re a difficult opponent,” said head coach Wilfried Nancy. “We performed really well last time we faced them, and we could’ve won the game. They’re dealing with a few injuries right now and they’re in a bit of a difficult moment, but they’re going to come here and try to play their game. They’re a good team, with players that come back a lot. We’re ready for them.”

It will be a second meeting already between these two sides when they meet at Stade Saputo Saturday, following a thrilling 3-3 draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on March 19.

Things are going well on the scoring front for the Montreal side. With 14 goals scored, CF Montréal is among the highest scoring teams in the league after eight games. Striker Romell Quioto is on a four-game point streak which includes three goals and one assist, while Djordje Mihailovic has four goals and three assists on the season so far.

37-year-old Kei Kamara has also been an excellent addition to the frontline. The striker notched his second goal of the season last weekend coming off the bench to tie the game against the Philadelphia Union. It was 132nd career goal in MLS, putting just one goal away from tying the fourth best goalscorer in league’s history, and just two away from third.

Although the Club did struggle a little on the defensive end coming out of the gate, the backline has been solidified in their past three games, allowing just three goals in that span.

Atlanta is currently in a bit of a difficult stretch. The Georgian side in winless in their last five MLS games, although they are coming off a dominant win in the US Open Cup against Chattanooga FC, which plays in the National Independent Soccer Association in the third tier of American Soccer.

“We kept the ball well again them the first time around. I felt that my players had control of the game when we play like that, added Nancy. We were patient, composed with the ball, and we were moving it from side to side. Now, it’s all about respecting the game plan and bringing the right energy. We need to keep doing what we do well, which is keeping the ball.

Montreal will be back home next weekend to take on Orlando City SC at Stade Saputo, on Saturday, May 7, with kick off set at 4pm. You can purchase tickets for that game here.
