Patrice Bernier back on track after off-season knee surgery

Patrice Bernier 2014 preseason

The 2013 season started off with a bang for midfielder Patrice Bernier, but ended in a whimper when he was forced to sit the bench for the team’s first ever playoff game in MLS due to injury.

But following off-season knee surgery, the 2013 MLS All-Star is getting close to 100%.

“The knee’s doing well,” said Bernier. “It felt pretty good today. You always have that little fear or doubt psychologically when you come back from injury.”

Bernier couldn’t do too much physically during the offseason, as he was rehabbing from surgery, but he did manage to get a couple of pickup hockey games in as he was told by doctors it wouldn’t put pressure on the injured area.

With Monday’s first day of training camp in the books, Bernier faced his first true test on the injured knee and the Brossard native is quite pleased with the results.

“I’m very happy to be back on the field from the start of camp. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to start preseason on the pitch, but it was good for me to move around and get touches without any pain. Now, I have to take it day-by-day and understand that I can’t be 100% on my first few days back on the field, but work to being healthy come the season opener.”
