Despite Sunday’s result against the Sounders going the wrong way, here are a couple of interesting stats and facts from the home opener that may provide some solace to Impact fans in anticipation of next week’s game against the Philadelphia Union (Saturday, March 29, 4pm ET - TVA Sports, TSN690).
25- Although the Impact was shut out on the scoreboard, the team managed a heck of a lot of shots – 25 to be exact – and fired 19 of them in the second half alone, an all-time record for the club in MLS for a single half. That total for the game almost triples that of the visiting Sounders FC (9).
10 - Another indication that the Impact spent more time attacking the goal was in the total number of corners at 10, equaling a team record in MLS.
35 - Open play crosses were also dominated by the Impact, 35 to 14 for the home side, a sign that the Impact has been able to create chances from out wide on a number of occasions.
All that said, the bleu-blanc-noir have been able to create chances. Now the team needs to find that killer instinct in the final third.
