Nacho’s own little Disney World

Argentine midfielder has great stats against the Lions

There probably isn’t a team in MLS that will tell you they’re eager to face Nacho Piatti. The Argentine has been an absolute nightmare to deal with since he joined MLS in 2014, wreaking havoc in the final third with his scoring touch and technical skills.

We’ve seen it first hand for five years now. We know how deadly he can be. But there’s one team in particular in MLS who has experienced Piatti’s wrath more than anyone else. Luckily, it’s also the Impact’s next opponent.

In nine career games against Orlando City SC, the Impact’s Argentine sensation has found the back of the net eight times, adding an assist as well. In two games against the Lions last season, the Designated Player had three goals, including a brace at Orlando City SC Stadium in a 3-0 win.

What did he have to say when asked about it, Thursday morning at Centre Nutrilait?

“I don’t know why I’ve had so much success against Orlando,” said Piatti. “Maybe it’s because of Disney.”

Ah, Nacho. Humble as always of course, his response drawing a roar of laughter from the media members present. He did elaborate afterwards.

“It isn’t specific to Orlando,” added Nacho. “There are games in which you feel better than others. On our end, we just hope the entire team has a good game so that we can come home with three points. We know the importance of getting points on the road.”

The Impact still has four games to go on the road before finding the confines of Stade Saputo for its home opener on Saturday, April 13 at 1pm against the Columbus Crew SC (TICKETS – TVA Sports, 98.5, TSN 690). The game against Orlando City SC is on Saturday, March 16 at 4pm (TVA Sports, 98.5).
