Montaño looks to seize opportunity with the Impact

Miguel Montano California

Miguel Montaño realizes that he has a unique opportunity with the Montreal Impact, and he is looking to seize it.

With the support of what he says are great fans, the Colombian believes that the newest MLS franchise has a wealth of talent and will surprise many teams, hopefully ending the playoff drought for Canadian teams in MLS.

"We have a good squad. I think the new players and the new gear will get us started on the right foot, and with a good preseason and strong friendlies, we should have a good start," said Montaño.

On loan from the Seattle Sounders, the offensive minded Montaño joined the Impact midseason in 2011, mostly down the left flank. The 20-year-old played six games in the NASL, scoring a goal and adding two assists, with performances that convinced Impact staff he deserved a shot at the revamped side for MLS in 2012.
"After playing with the club for only two months, the fact the coaching staff have confidence in me is great motivation and I hope to prove them right on the field,” he said. “I think we can show that we will be a very good technical team despite being an expansion side.”
Montaño also believes the support of the Impact fans will give them an edge.
"Supporters of the club filled the stadium with lots of encouragement," says the former member of Envigado in Colombia and Quilmes in Argentina. “Now with the entry into MLS, I think support will grow."
He also has an affinity for the city.
“It is the best city I have ever been to in my life. It’s very beautiful, with a European feel and style on the street, the architecture and the French speaking people.”
