The Bleu-blanc-noir leaves Philadelphia with $350,000 in allocation money
Before this edition of the MLS SuperDraft, the Impact was in a great position to better themselves. Two picks for Montreal among the first 10 seemed quite promising. And promising they were, although not in the way that Impact supporters expected them to be: two trades, with FC Dallas and Minnesota United FC respectively, allowed the Impact to put its hands on $350,000 of allocation money.
The message from head coach Rémi Garde is therefore quite clear: confidence in young players from the Academy already in the first team is high. “There are opportunities for our young players. I’ve seen some of them in person playing with the Canadian youth team. In the Academy, there are young players who are very close to making the jump to the first team. It’s a message, but also a sporting policy for the club.”
Garde also had good news regarding Zakaria Diallo, the central defender linked to the Montreal Impact. “We are very close to being able to announce the acquisition of Diallo from France. We are also looking for another center back. We still have pieces to add, things to do. I have a good feeling.”
On his end, technical director Adam Braz also confirmed the arrival of other international players, with whom negotiations are in advanced stages. “Diallo is very close. Saphir Taïder will be coming to Montreal, we’ll be able to officially announce it soon and we can’t wait for him to join the team. Chances are high that Jeisson Vargas will join us as well. It isn’t done yet, but we’ll see in the next few days or weeks.”
Good things come to those who wait, as the saying goes. We’ll now have to wait for Tuesday to see the new players on the field for the first time, during the first training session of the year at Olympic Stadium, for the beginning of training camp.
