MONTREAL - Impact midfielder Ignacio Piatti was named on Thursday the Alcatel MLS Player of the Month for August.
In the last month, Piatti scored seven goals - including two game-winning goals - and added an assist in five games, helping the team win four important games in a row. He had previously been named the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week 24 on Tuesday, August 22, after recording braces against Chicago and Real Salt Lake.
The Argentine is currently tied for second in MLS with four multi-goal games and four penalty goals, tied for fourth with 15 goals and tied for eighth with 29 shots on goal.
Last Sunday against Toronto, Piatti tied an old club record (first and second divisions) by scoring at least a goal in a fifth consecutive game. He tied previous marks set by Grant Needham in 1993 and Lloyd Barker in 1995.
Piatti also passed Marco Di Vaio earlier this season, with a brace against Portland on May 20, to become the record goal scorer in MLS club history. He now has 44 career goals in regular season.
