Read what Impact head coach Marco Schällibaum had to say following the 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Union, on Saturday evening at Stade Saputo.
On the game…
This was an intense and spectacular game. They scored three goals, but they are a good team. We had that want and desire to win this game, even in moments of adversary. This is a group that wants to win for each other, for the club and its fans.
We played a good team that was really well organized, but we were still able to push things and find the alleys. I think we were the stronger side tonight and now we have 23 points and have distanced ourselves a little from other teams in the playoff race.
On Marco Di Vaio’s performance (3 goals)…
That’s Marco…he’s so good at finding space. We have to give Andrew Wenger some credit because he does a lot of hard work that helps create space for Marco. And Di Vaio is an opportunist and we love him for that. As a coach, I’m, very happy to have a player like him.
On Andrew Wenger…
In the first half, he was a little timid, but in the second half he was dominant. He won a lot of battles and held the ball up very well. When you work on different things every day at training, you need those players that are willing to learn and listen and Andrew is one of those players. We have a lot of guys like that on the team.
