The Bleu-blanc-noir eSports player looking to qualify for eWorld Cup
MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact’s eSports player on EA SPORTS FIFA 18, Lyes Ould-Ramoul, better known as LyesMTL, will participate in the Global Series Playoffs, the last hurdle before the FIFA eWorld Cup, in the PS4 portion of the tournament, from June 1 to 3 in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. The best 16 players of the 64 present will qualify for the FIFA eWorld Cup, jointly organized by FIFA and EA SPORTS, set to take place in London from August 2 to 4.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” said LyesMTL. “I’ve prepared myself for this tournament and my goal is to qualify for the eWorld Cup. I’m confident in my abilities and I’m determined to represent the Impact on the international scene of eSports as well as I can.”
LyesMTL, who qualified for the Global Series Playoffs through his participation in the final of the first ever eMLS Cup last April in Boston, is aiming for a second appearance at the eWorld Cup, after a fourth-place finish in 2015 at the FIFA Interactive World Cup.
The EA SPORTS Global Series Playoffs are already underway in Amsterdam, with the portion for Xbox One players having started on Monday. A Swiss format is employed for this tournament, meaning every player will play seven games each. A player can only play against an opponent with the same number of wins as him or her. At the end of the preliminary round, only players with at least four victories – so half of them – will qualify for the round of 32.
Five other players from MLS clubs have also qualified for the Global Series Playoffs: on Xbox One, CrewSCNenad10, from Columbus Crew SC, alanavi, from FC Dallas, Kid M3mito, the eMLS Cup champion, from the Houston Dynamo, and Alekzandur, from Sporting Kansas City, will represent North America’s first division, while on PS4, didychrislito, from New York City FC, and LyesMTL from the Bleu-blanc-noir will give it their best to try and qualify for the eWorld Cup.
For the first time this year, FIFA and EA Sports are joining forces to create one single end of year tournament, the eWorld Cup, which replaces the FIFA Interactive World Cup and the Ultimate Team Championship Series. Last year, the champions of these two events put their hands on $200,000 USD and $160,000 USD respectively. Details of the prize money given for the 2018 eWorld Cup have not yet been unveiled.
