MONTREAL - CF Montréal fell 1-0 to D.C. United at Stade Saputo on Wednesday evening in the Club’s final group stage match of the 2023 Leagues Cup.

Following their shootout victory over Pumas UNAM on Saturday, July 22 (2-2, 4-2 on penalties), Montreal was leading Group E2 while D.C. United was making its tournament debut.

Head coach Hernán Losada's men were stunned shortly after the hour mark by D.C. United striker Erik Hurtado (70th) and despite numerous attempts (14 shots attempted throughout the match), the Bleu-blanc-noir lost 0-1, final score.

With two points, CF Montréal can still reach the Leagues Cup round of 32 but will have to wait for the result of the final match of the East 2 group between D.C. and Pumas UNAM this Saturday. A win for the Americans against UNAM, either in regulation or on penalty kicks, would qualify Samuel Piette teammates for the knockout phase as group runners-up.

Hernán Losada

"We created a lot of chances, especially in the second half, but unfortunately we didn't score. I don't think the team could have done more tonight. I'm very proud of all our efforts trying to equalize."

Samuel Piette

"We weren't able to capitalize on our chances to score tonight. It's frustrating to take that unlucky goal. We need to keep working and hope that D.C. United will win against Pumas on Saturday ."
