CF Montréal 1-2 Sporting Kansas City

MONTREAL – CF Montréal was defeated 2-1 on Saturday night at Stade Saputo against Sporting Kansas City.

A 13th minute Romell Quioto header gave the home side the lead, but it would prove insufficient as Kansas City struck twice through Roger Espinoza (29’) and Remi Walter (63’).

Montreal will be back in front of its home fans again next Saturday against Toronto FC for former captain Mauro Biello’s induction to the Club’s Wall of Fame (TVA Sports, TSN, 91.9 Sports, TSN 690).

WILFRIED NANCY

“When you see the goals we conceded tonight, it's frustrating. We weren't threatened and finally we gave away two goals while we were still building the match. In the first half, they created very few chances apart from the goal. In the second half we pushed and once again we made a mistake and were punished for it. That's the reality of this game.”

MATKO MILJEVIC

“The group remains united despite obvious mistakes tonight. We are aware that we are giving up avoidable goals. The important thing now is to turn the page, return to training hard on Monday and prepare for the game against Toronto. It will be a chance to bounce back from a tough loss in the Canadian Championship. We have everything we need to compete at the top of the standings.”

SAMUEL PIETTE

“These were avoidable goals and a result that hurts. The final score does not reflect the game at all. We conceded twice on their two only chances. We were back at home and confident despite the result against the Galaxy. We started the game well. We took the lead, and continued to be in the game but we lost in the end. It's disappointing."
