Klopas: “We’re going to add players.”

Frank Klopas Assemblée des membres 2014

Impact head coach Frank Klopas has a number of decisions to make in the offseason in terms of personnel and work has already begun. One obvious area of need is up front.

“With Marco retiring, we definitely need some depth up front,” explained Klopas. “That is definitely one area of the field we need to look at.”

The bleu-blanc-noir brass is looking to make additions in other positions as well, especially down the spine where depth and upgrade or two may be needed in central midfield or at centre back. The team has been working a number of angles in its search.

“We are looking for a number one centre back, between 27 and 28 years old, is a priority for us,” defined Klopas. “We have done some work on a number of players and we are looking for someone who is a real leader and vocal.”

And as for the midfielders, Klopas and his coaching staff are targeting a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder.

“We have a number of ways in which we can add depth to our team,” explained Klopas. “We’ve done some scouting in South America and in Europe, but we also have opportunities to make trades within the league or through the draft, as well as the dispersal draft (Chivas USA) Thursday and the waiver drafts. We are always looking at every position and the work we are doing now has always been part of our groundwork.”
