MONTREAL – Last Sunday, the Impact did what was most important: bring three points back from Vancouver. But to make victory even sweeter, it was then honours galore for the Montreal Impact during the week.
First, Nacho Piatti won two individual prizes: MLSsoccer.com’s AT&T Goal of the Week and FutbolMLS.com’s Latino de la Jornada awards.
In the AT&T Goal of the Week finals, 53 percent of internet voters chose Piatti’s spectacular first goal at Vancouver over Federico Higuaín’s overhead kick at Portland. Piatti’s goal had gotten the best of efforts by Houston Dynamo’s Giles Barnes and New England Revolution’s Diego Fagundez in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
Piatti also came in first with 44.71 percent of votes for FutbolMLS.com’s Latino de la Jornada award. Higuaín, Fagundez and Real Salt Lake’s Joao Plata completed a high-level foursome of finalists.
Goalkeeper Evan Bush, for his part, won MLSsoccer.com’s Save of the Week award for his reflex stop on Octavio Rivero’s point-blank header. Bush also got 53 percent of the vote in the finals against Sporting Kansas City’s Tim Melia. Bush had defeated Orlando City SC’s Joe Bendik and Real Salt Lake’s Nick Rimando in previous rounds.
Congratulations to our winners, and thank you fans for your support!
