Daniel Lovitz in the American squad for two upcoming friendlies
Here it is folks: your first IMFC international watch of the year, and it’s an exciting one. Impact full-back Daniel Lovitz received his first ever call-up with the American national team, having joined new coach Gregg Berhalter and the rest of the squad in California on January 2 for the beginning of camp.
After surviving a round of cuts and making the final 23-man squad, Lovitz played his first minutes with the USMNT on Sunday, in the first of two friendly games, and played with the same fierceness to which we are accustomed: one shot, three tackles, two clearances, two dribbles, eight recoveries and a passing accuracy of 90%, helping his team beat Panama 3-0.
In the second friendly, this time against Costa Rica at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Daniel Lovitz played another 90 minutes in the 2-0 win, helping the American national team earn its second clean sheet in two games to open the new year. Starting once again in the left-back position, Lovitz put in another sturdy performance, managing three successful tackles, two clearances and three recoveries.
It’s an extremely positive start to the Berhalter era and Daniel Lovitz seems poised to be a major part of it in the foreseeable future. That being said, we’re extremely excited to have our defender back. It’s a good thing his experience at Avaya Stadium was a positive one, considering the Impact will open its season there on March 2 against the San Jose Earthquakes. See you at training camp, Dan.
