Toye looking forward to new opportunity in Montreal

Earlier today, the Montreal Impact announced that reinforcements were on their way: striker Mason Toye was acquired from Minnesota United FC and would be available as of next Wednesday’s game against the Columbus Crew SC.

“I’m excited,” said Toye. “Of course, I want to thank everyone in Minnesota for what they’ve done for me. They’ve been a really big part of my progression. But the change of scenery and moving to a different team, all that is really exciting.”

Toye was selected seventh overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota and became one of the brightest prospects in the US after a breakout year in 2019, during which he scored six goals in MLS.

The young American now has a chance to prove himself further in Montreal and benefit from the tutelage of head coach and former striker Thierry Henry. The club will play eight games until November 1, starting this Saturday against the Chicago Fire. With so many games in a very limited amount of time, Toye is sure to see minutes before the end of the season.

“Obviously, to play under a guy like Thierry Henry is really exciting, especially for me as a young forward,” added Toye. “I’m excited to learn from him and work under him. There are so many good players on this team as well and I’m looking forward to working with them. I’m going to work my hardest to try and bring wins and trophies to the club.”
