The Impact started its Champions League run with a 1-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes, on August 7, in Montreal. Defender Hassoun Camara scored the game's only goal, when he redirected a Hernan Bernardello free-kick past keeper David Bingham in the 16th minute.
The game could have started differently when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute, but Impact keeper Evan Bush saved Alan Gordon's attempt.
Montreal has already faced San Jose at Buck Shaw Stadium in the 2013 regular season , playing to a 2-2 draw on May 4, with Justin Mapp scoring a brace for the Impact. Adam Jahn and Sam Cronin replied for the Quakes.
