MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that defender Zarek Valentin will not be joining the Impact in 2014. Valentin will return to FK Bodø/Glimt, where he signed a new contract.
Despite lenghty discussions with Valentin, both parties were unable to reach an agreement.
However, the Impact will retain Valentin’s rights when he returns to Major League Soccer.
The American defender was loaned out to the Norwegian second division club on March 27, 2013, helping Bodø earn promotion to the country’s top flight Tippeligaen. In his first season in Norway, he made 27 appearances for a total of 2,363 minutes of play.
Valentin, 22, was the 4th overall draft pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. After one season with Chivas USA, he was selected by the Impact in the MLS Expansion Draft.
The right back played a total of 15 games and 1,116 minutes of play with Montreal.
