With all the moving and shaking that’s been going on in MLS during this offseason, Impact sporting director Nick De Santis is very comfortable with the roster he’s got in place for the 2014 season.
“Deals are usually made with teams that like to shake things up or make adjustments, but in our case, we have a solid foundation,” said De Santis. “We want to build around that with some depth.”
However, De Santis is looking to bring more quality to the team.
“We want to add one or two good players to make the team even better,” he said. “We have a good core, but we can still improve the quality of the team. The moves made by other teams won’t change our game plan. Our plan was to do well in our first two seasons, but to also create a solid base to build on for years to come.”
The Impact selected defender Eric Miller at the 2014 SuperDraft to add depth on that position, with midseason signing Adrian Lopez expected back from injury only in April.
Another defender is in negotiations with the Montreal Impact, one familiar to the club.
“We are currently working on bringing back Nelson Rivas,” said De Santis. “The negotiations are going well and we are hopeful that we can get a deal done.”
